![]() ![]() ![]() During the war, like most manufacturers, Guillow's was forced to alternative materials such as cardboard and pine. Guillow's grew during the model boom of the 1930s, and when the Depression hit the hardest, Guillow's responded with lower prices and became one of the low price leaders, frequently advertising in Model Airplane News and other leading publications. His 'Shelf Models' were some of the earlier non-flying models in production. In 1926 he began producing wooden model airplane kits. Inventoried 100% complete with all parts and paperwork. ![]() Includes excellent full-size plans with detailed instructions. Features plastic engine cylinder heads and cowl/radiator, quality die-cut balsa parts, strip wood and spars, die-cut plywood firewall, rubber tires mounted on scale plastic rims, fully formed thrust button, formed metal prop/rubber hood and metal stock as required, rubber motor and plastic prop, clear cabin window material, colored tissue and a big sheet of near-mint condition decals. Can be flown rubber free flight, gas free flight, or converted to electric RC using today's small and light servos and receivers. It is fortunate for us that they did, because in most cases this is the only injection molded kit of these rare and classic early automobiles.įrom 1965. Aurora was quick to realize this and used the research and layout from these kits to create the subjects for this 'Old Timers' series. But the Hudson models were second to none in quality, research and documentation. Hudson had discontinued this line due to lack of sales of wooden kits. ![]() In researching new kit subjects, they came upon a forgotten jewel - the Hudson Miniatures line of 1/16 scale wooden kits. Aurora was renowned for turning a profit and for keeping expenses down. The red parts are still factory sealed the parts that were never factory sealed have been inventoried complete. Molded in red, black and with nickel plated parts and real white rubber tires. This kit features full engine, transaxle and driveline detail, complete interior, suspension and steering linkage, exhaust and more. This box is the later version - on the next box order, they kept the '1/4' blotted out but added a proper looking '5/32' in front of the blot.ġ964 issue of Aurora's 'Super Detailed Museum Model with Plated Parts.' Done in a big 1/16 scale, this kit and the other 'Old Timers' in the series represented a significant leap forward in quality for Aurora. On the early version, the '1/4' was blotted out with a dark blue oval or circle and '5/32' was added after the word 'SCALE.' It was now correct, but the appearance was not completely professional. Following that, there are two known corrections: early and late. Clearly, this kit is not 1/48 scale and someone at Aurora corrected it. The very first issue says '1/4 SCALE MODEL' at the top right. It is interesting to note that the early Aurora PBY issue has at least three small variations to the box top. It has been inventoried complete with all parts and includes decals and instructions. This must be one of the first instances of the 'Triangle' stand being used as it is normally associated with oval 'Famous Fighter' logo kits. Includes correct early logo instructions which show the clear 'Triangle World' stand. Features retracting pontoons and rotating propellers. This was a fine effort by Aurora for that time and an impressive model when assembled. ![]()
